San Diego, CA Solar FAQs
Answers to common questions from San Diego homeowners about solar monitoring, maintenance, and getting support.
San Diego utility and incentive resources

What is SDG&E's NEM 3.0 impact on San Diego solar owners?
California's current net-billing tariff values exports differently from older net-metering arrangements, and SDG&E rates and export values change over time. Customer economics depend on the applicable tariff and usage pattern, so verify current SDG&E terms rather than relying on a fixed savings percentage. Production monitoring can help owners compare generation timing with household use.
Are there specific local incentive programs for San Diego solar owners?
California tax treatment and SDG&E rates or customer programs depend on current rules and individual eligibility; programs for electricity bills or solar water heating should not be treated as residential photovoltaic installation incentives. The federal Residential Clean Energy Credit was historically 30% for qualifying residential solar property placed in service through December 31, 2025. Under current IRS guidance it is not available for property placed in service after that date. Eligibility and carryforwards depend on the taxpayer's circumstances; monitoring and maintenance fees do not become eligible installation costs.
