Check ownership before arranging work If you own the system outright or financed its purchase, gather the purchase and loan documents. If you lease the system or have a power purchase agreement (PPA), contact the company named as owner or service provider in that contract first. Its responsibilities and authorization requirements may differ from those of the original installer. Do not assume the installer’s closure cancels a loan, lease or PPA. Keep payments and contract questions separate from technical troubleshooting; ask the financing or contract provider for written clarification. ## 2. Build a service folder - Purchase, installation, loan, lease or PPA agreements and any separate service or insurance policy. - Panel and inverter make/model, serial numbers from existing records, installation date and system size. - Permits, inspection records, utility permission to operate, diagrams and warranty documents. - Monitoring account details, recent production history, screenshots of alerts and prior service invoices. Use documents or labels accessible safely from the ground; do not climb onto a roof or open electrical equipment to retrieve a serial number. Keep passwords and access codes out of shared service folders. ## 3. Recover monitoring access through the official provider Use the manufacturer’s official support site to recover your account or ask how to authorize a replacement maintainer. Be ready to establish ownership or authority. Avoid giving a new contractor your personal login; use the platform’s supported access-sharing process where available. If the app stopped updating, that may be a communication problem rather than lost generation. Separate the warranties An equipment manufacturer’s product or performance warranty is different from the installer’s workmanship promise. Roof penetrations, labor, travel, removal, shipping and reinstallation may be handled differently—or excluded. Read the documents for your actual equipment and installation date. Ask the manufacturer whether coverage applies, what evidence it needs, and who may perform approved work. Manufacturer coverage can continue after an installer closes; confirm the process directly with the manufacturer. A workmanship claim against a closed business may need advice from a consumer-protection agency or qualified legal professional. ## 5. Choose a replacement provider carefully Confirm appropriate licensing, insurance and experience with your equipment. Ask for a written diagnostic scope, callout cost, warranty handling process and approval step before repairs. Verify any claimed manufacturer affiliation with the manufacturer itself.
